Brno - A new residential area could potentially grow behind the Kamechy housing estate in Brno in the future. The city council today approved the plan to make changes to the zoning plan, which would allow construction in the Žebětín district. The opposition Green Party (SZ) disagrees with the intention to continue building in the area. According to the leader of the SZ, Martin Ander, rather the areas in the city that are already connected to transportation should be utilized.
"Kamechy are not yet fully completed, there is no tram line leading there, the transportation connection is poor, and there are no shops, schools, or kindergartens, and nonetheless, the councilors have agreed to continue with construction that will also include building residential buildings on the slope below Kamechy," said Ander.
According to him, construction in this part of the city will require investments in the future as engineering networks will have to be installed there. The councilors have not yet approved a change in the zoning plan, but only the intention to prepare a change. Ander believes that it will be possible to stop the change in future processes.
The councilors also voted today on other changes to the zoning plan that met with disapproving reactions. For example, the mayor of the Jundrov district, Ivana Fajnorová, opposed the plan to change the zoning plan for the land between the residential building on Jasanová Street and the forest created by the Holedná game reserve. The area of gardens without access roads was to be changed to a building plot. In the end, the councilors did not approve the change.
