Zábřeh (Šumperk) - The train station in Zábřeh in the Šumperk region has undergone extensive reconstruction and modernization. Part of the project, costing approximately 130 million crowns, included the construction of a new ticket hall, the renovation of the historical dispatch building, and the creation of a new underpass to the platforms. Václav John, the chief of the Olomouc transport administration, said this to ČTK today. Railway workers began revitalizing the station in 2004.

"The dispatch building has been adapted for the needs of people with disabilities, among other things. Thanks to the elevators in the new underpass, they will also have easier access to the platforms," John stated.
He added that the investment in the new underpass was also related to passenger safety. "The new underpass is closer to the dispatch building, in areas where accidents used to occur when crossing the tracks," noted the chief of the Olomouc transport administration.
The investment also included the renovation of the historically protected Klein warehouse and the construction of a new ticket hall. Its centerpiece is a glass tower with a clock designed by architect Miloslav Tempír. "A significant investment was also the adjustment of the tracks at the station. However, this is part of the construction of the corridor line in the section Zábřeh - Krasíkov, which will likely be completed by the end of the year," John stated.
The area in front of the train station will also see improvements. The adjustments, funded by the town hall of Zábřeh, include the construction of new parking lots, sidewalks, access roads, and repairs to the local bus station. "According to the latest information, the project should be completed on time, by the end of November or the beginning of December," said Mayor Petr Fabián to ČTK. He added that the reconstruction will cost nearly 30 million crowns.
The Zábřeh railway station is not the only train station in the Olomouc region that railway workers are investing in. The station in Prostějov has already been revamped. This year and next year, the stations in Šumperk and Jeseník will also undergo reconstruction and modernization. The revitalization of the Přerov railway station is also expected in the coming years.
