Brno - The Masaryk University Faculty of Informatics complex in Brno will receive a new look by 2014. The facilities for teaching and research will also improve. The school already had the front wing demolished at the end of summer, and today the construction of more modern spaces has officially begun at that location. In addition to educational purposes, it will also serve the development of innovative business. The reconstruction is part of the Center for Education, Research, and Innovations in Informatics (CERIT) project, said university spokesperson Tereza Fojtová to ČTK. The new front wing of the complex, designated as A1, will have five floors. Inside, there will be lecture halls, classrooms, laboratories, offices, a library, and a modern data center. The European Union provided 350 million crowns for the construction. A scientific and technological park and a business incubator specialized in information and communication technologies will follow the new front building. A seven-story building A2 and a covered parking lot will be created for the needs of the incubator. The construction will cost 132 million crowns. Part of the development of the faculty complex also includes the new CERIT Scientific Cloud computer center for processing scientific data and related research in the field of information technology. The center is already in operation. It provides computing and storage resources for the needs of scientists from the Czech Republic and abroad. The university received 130 million crowns for the center's equipment. The extensive reconstruction places increased demands on the organization of teaching and the regular operation of the faculty. "Construction works are planned to interfere as little as possible with operations," said faculty dean Michal Kozubek. Nevertheless, the university had to rent space on Šumavská Street, where it moved part of the teaching, several research laboratories, and offices.
