The representatives of the Liberec Region will discuss the plan to purchase the hotel and transmitter Ještěd

Liberec - The representatives of the Liberec Region will discuss today the intention to purchase the hotel and transmitter at Ještěd, which is currently owned by Czech Radiocommunications (ČRa). A week ago, representatives of the region and ČRa signed a memorandum of understanding at Ještěd. They agreed that by the end of this year, the company would negotiate the possible sale of this national cultural monument exclusively with the region.

If the council approves the intention, the region will prepare detailed documents by August. The decision regarding a potential purchase will be made by the new council that will emerge from the upcoming regional elections in the autumn.

The Ještěd hotel and transmitter has been in operation since 1973. The structure is one of the most original architectural works in the Czech Republic and won a survey for the Czech building of the 20th century. Architect Karel Hubáček received the prestigious international Perret Prize for the project. Czech Radiocommunications has owned the hotel and transmitter since 2000. Since then, it has invested tens of millions into its repairs, but the monument urgently needs a complete reconstruction, including its infrastructure. Costs are estimated by designers to exceed half a billion crowns, and there are currently no resources for that.

The governor of the region, Martin Půta (Mayors for the Liberec Region), believes that if the unique structure were acquired by the region, it would be possible to obtain funding for its restoration from European funds.
