Prague - Although the cornerstone of the transmitter on Ještěd was laid 45 years ago, on July 30, 1966, this building has not lost any of its elegance and timelessness even after such a long time. It is no wonder that its authors - architect Karel Hubáček and structural engineer Zdeněk Patrman - received the prestigious Perret Prize from the International Union of Architects for their project.
The ninety-four-meter-high silver transmitter replaced a burned-down stone hut at the top of Ještěd. The design of the transmitter and hotel was developed by the Liberec architectural studio SIAL, which chose the shape of a rotational hyperboloid, smoothly following the line of the mountain. The building, visible from afar, quickly became an inseparable symbol of Liberec and was ceremoniously opened at the end of September 1973.
The building of the hotel and transmitter on Ještěd is among the best creations of Czech architecture of the 1960s. Due to its elegance and practical use of modern technologies, the building received the prestigious Auguste Perret Award in 1969. In addition to the external appearance of the transmitter, experts also praised the original interior, of which, according to its author, architect Otakar Binara, "nothing remains" to this day.
Since 2006, the television transmitter and mountain hotel on Ještěd have been included in the list of National Cultural Monuments.
