Prague - Prague representatives today decided on changes to the zoning plan that will allow the extension of the metro line A to Václav Havel Airport. The current zoning plan does not allow for the construction. The city council had already agreed to the changes earlier, and the assembly today confirmed their proposal.
The route from Dejvice to Ruzyně will be almost 13 kilometers long and will include nine new stations. The costs, including the trains, are estimated at around 19.4 billion crowns. Construction is expected to begin at the end of next year.
The first section could be completed in 2014. It will be about six kilometers long, and the trains will stop at the stations Červený Vrch, Veleslavín, Petřiny, and Motol. Additionally, a transfer terminal will be created at the Veleslavín stop, where a P+R parking lot will be built and which will be connected to other Prague and suburban public transport.
In the second phase, which the city expects to complete around 2017, the metro line A will run through the stations Bílá Hora, Dědina, and Dlouhá míle, where there will be another transfer terminal for the Kladno area. A year later, the underground railway should reach the airport, with a stop at the old airport.
A rapid railway line between Prague and Kladno is still in play, which will also run through Václav Havel Airport and is expected to be completed by 2014. The line should run from Masaryk Station to Kladno along the Buštěhrad Railway route with a branch to the airport terminals.
