Assoc. Prof. Ing. arch. Zdeněk Fránek (1961) - lives and works in Brno. He is the author of several villas, urban houses, and public buildings. After studying at the Faculty of Architecture of the Brno University of Technology from 1980 to 1985, he established his own design office in 1989. In the 1990s, he briefly lectured externally at his alma mater’s Faculty of Architecture. Currently, he primarily focuses on design work within his own office Franek Architects, located in a modern building designed by him on the slopes of the Červený kopec, a distinctive part of the Brno district of Štýřice. In the 1990s, his buildings appeared in professional media only sporadically, as his work was inspired differently from the prevailing part of the Czech architectural scene. He sought inspiration in the organic work of Hungarian architect Imre Makovecz. In the following decade, he approached the synthesis of organic architecture and a restrained expression with high-quality and artistically emphasized materials - concrete, glass, metal, and the traditional material - wood. In doing so, he develops a poetics based on his unique reflection on architecture. His work has already become an inseparable part of the form of contemporary Czech architectural culture.
