During the spring of 2017, the public of Opava participated in the discussion about the future use of the city block of the former Slezanka shopping center. For this strategically important area for Opava, the city commissioned an urban study to propose its future use and the basic parameters for new construction. As part of the Search for Vision for Slezanka, on Saturday, June 17, 2017, the Day for Slezanka will take place at the Upper Square! A day dedicated to discussing a better life in the center of Opava. Throughout the morning and afternoon blocks, there will be children's workshops, presentations of analysis results, and a series of lectures on architecture, urbanism, and the development of Opava.

Martin Strakoš will open the series at 10:00 with a lecture on the topic of Opava Architecture: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow?
Martin Strakoš is an architectural historian and a professional employee of the National Heritage Institute in Ostrava. He focuses on the architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries and the issues of new buildings in historical settings. Together with Romana Rosová, he prepared for publication the Guide to the Architecture of Opava (2011). He organizes popular architectural walks in cities across the Czech Republic and is involved in the Ostrava beautification society Za krásnou Ostravu. In addition to professional publications, he also publishes books for the general public, such as Ostrava Interiors (2011) and Opava Interiors (2015).

At 11:00, Petr Šmídek will present "Close Examples" from small Czech towns, where quality architecture thrives thanks to enlightened clients and representatives.

Lucie Langerová has worked since 2009 as the head of the Heritage Care Department at the Opava City Hall. Her career as a heritage expert began after she graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the VUT in Brno at the National Heritage Institute in Ostrava, where she led the department of referents. She is the initiator and co-author of the publication "Values We Protect," published for the 20th anniversary of the declaration of the Opava Urban Conservation Area.

From 12:30, Miroslav Frank will speak about the natural conditions of the city of Opava.
Miroslav Frank is a botanist, dendrologist, and a well-known promoter of the beauty of plants and trees, the head of the Arboretum of the Silesian Museum in Nový Dvůr, now retired.

At 15:00, you can look forward to Jan Jehlík and his lecture on the topic of The Urbanism Handbook: The Architecture of Understanding and Designing Environments
Jan Jehlík is an associate professor at the Faculty of Architecture CTU, head of the Department of Urbanism, and author of several books. His latest book is titled The Urbanism Handbook. Its text aims to cover all aspects of the field and the general framework conditions for the creation of settlements, from the basics of human existence in the world to the technical and political levels of decision-making, and formulates theses from which methods of designing, evaluating, or making design decisions can develop in practice.

At 16:00, do not miss Ondřej Kašpárek and his lecture on the topic: Cities Friendly to Culture!
Ondřej Kašpárek works at DEPO2015 as a manager of the Creative Entrepreneurship Center, which consists of open Makerspace workshops, shared Coworking offices, and a business training program called Incubator. The center represents a new concept of a community platform developing projects in the fields of culture, design, and other sectors.

At 17:00, Jindřich Vybíral will present the work of architect Leopold Bauer. Do you know which buildings in Opava he designed?
Jindřich Vybíral is a professor at the AA School of Art and Design in Prague. He focuses primarily on the history of architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries and the methodology of art history. He is the author of many dozens of scholarly studies and books. Among other things, he authored the book Leopold Bauer – The Heretic of Modern Architecture.

- re:architects: presentation of the results of the first two phases of the preparation of the project Vision for Slezanka
This will be a presentation of the first and second phase of the urban study project for the Slezanka block, which precedes the development of the proposal. Results of the analytical analysis of the site and its contexts, results of participation, and survey research will be presented. The Day for Slezanka is organized as part of the Search for Vision for Slezanka – the preparation of an urban study for the adjustment of the Slezanka city block in Opava. The study is being prepared by the re:architects studio on behalf of the city of Opava. The urban study will be presented during September of this year.

Throughout the morning and afternoon, creative children's workshops will be held not only for young architects. The first starts at 11:00 and the second at 14:00 on the ground floor of Slezanka.
