Housing is one of the basic human needs. Due to the lack of municipal housing, the non-existence of potential social housing, the rise of short-term rentals, speculation, and many other influences, housing is becoming unaffordable for a large group of residents. What are the other forms of housing besides ownership and rental? And how can architects contribute to this process? We will discuss this at the next discussion evening from the Borders of Architecture series. Architect David Mareš and sociologist Tomáš Hoření Samec have accepted the invitation to debate.
The discussion evening is open to both professionals and the general public. During the evening, there will be space for questions from the audience. Sociologist Tomáš Hoření Samec works at the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He completed his doctoral studies in sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University and a research internship at the University of Vienna. He focuses on research into the discourse on housing and new forms of housing provision carried out by public and collective actors. He publishes in international journals, such as Urban Studies, Journal of Cultural Economy, and Housing, Theory and Society. He is the editor of the publication How to Ensure Affordable Housing?, which is available on the website dostupnebydleni.soc.cas.cz.
Architect David Mareš is a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Brno University of Technology. In 2003, he co-founded the studio třiarchitekti with Michal Fišer, which they have led together since then. He has a diverse portfolio of projects (from apartment reconstruction to urban planning). He has long been promoting the idea of Baugruppe and strives to create the first project of this kind in Prague.
