The renowned German architect Prof. Hans Kollhoff, who created the face of unified Berlin with the CHB building at Potsdamer Platz, will come to Prague. He will conclude the eighth edition of the Architecture Day festival with his lecture on Thursday, October 4, at the Světozor cinema. Hans Kollhoff, who is among the representatives of new classical architecture, will talk about his most prominent projects. Before the lecture, the film Last Exit Alexanderplatz will be screened. It captures the attempt to transform the former East German square Alexanderplatz into a top-notch shopping district similar to Manhattan, a concept proposed by Hans Kollhoff. “The work of Kollhoff Architekten represents architecture that is rooted in European tradition and does not neglect respect for nature and the surrounding context. Hans Kollhoff's architecture is characterized by classic craftsmanship and the use of traditional materials such as stone and brick,” says Marcela Steinbachová, the founder of the Kruh association that organizes the lecture. “Without a doubt, his most striking building is the DaimlerChrysler building, which Kollhoff defined as a landmark at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin,” she adds. Hans Kollhoff recently served as a professor at the prestigious architecture faculty of ETH Zurich, where he influenced an entire generation of contemporary architects. In his projects, Kollhoff also focuses on design elements, such as door handles or bespoke lighting. He places emphasis on the creation of details and facades. The portfolio of Kollhoff Architekten includes, for example, the State Central Bank of the Free States of Saxony and Thuringia in Leipzig, the Mainplaza skyscraper in Frankfurt am Main, and a residential and commercial building in the Berlin district of Mitte, etc. Before the lecture, the film Last Exit Alexanderplatz will be screened at 18:15 at the Světozor cinema, depicting the ongoing, but politically disputed and still unsuccessful attempt to transform the former East German square Alexanderplatz into a top-notch shopping district similar to Manhattan. The film features, among others, Prof. Hans Kollhoff, whose lecture will begin at 20:00. The film is part of the Film and Architecture festival, which will take place from September 29 to October 5 in more than 20 cities across the Czech Republic.
Hans Kollhoff's lecture will conclude the eighth edition of the Architecture Day festival, which will take place from September 28 to October 4 across the Czech Republic, and will simultaneously inaugurate the autumn lecture series Another Perspective, organized by the Kruh association. The lecture will take place on October 4, 2018, at 20:00 in the Světozor cinema in Prague and will be translated into Czech. Admission is 80 CZK for students and 100 CZK for adults.
