offcity_architekti: Jan Soukup - Circular Architecture

Evening on circular architecture, climate-neutral buildings, the doughnut economy, and greenwashing in architecture.
The association OFFCITY returns after a two-year break to its traditional lecture series. So far, we have held a total of 52 thematic lectures and discussions. The unifying theme of this year's series is recycling, not only in terms of reusing materials. Throughout the year, we will welcome architects and architectural firms whose projects incorporate recycling as a living ingredient of creation and imagination in Pardubice.
Our first guest is architect Jan Soukup, who has been dedicating himself to participatory design methods and natural materials in architecture since his studies. He co-initiated the architects' call related to the escalation of the climate crisis architects-for-future.cz and stimulated the formation of a sustainability initiative under the Czech Chamber of Architects, which began to explore the topic in depth.
The buildings we design and build today will likely stand for another 30 years, by which time, according to all climatological forecasts, our common future will have been decided. Therefore, what we build today may either become another nail in our proverbial coffin or an adequate solution to the situation. We need climate-neutral buildings, and they can be better in many ways than those of the past. From this perspective, circular architecture represents a clearly defined concept, applicable in various scales and variations. It offers a new way of thinking about the city and new business opportunities. Its implementation in practice is waiting for us. What exactly this means, what greenwashing practices to avoid, and which compass to follow in sustainable matters, let's come together to discuss at our meeting.
Organized by Offcity z. s. in collaboration with Divadlo 29 as part of the OFFCITY 2023 project with financial support from the statutory city of Pardubice and the Czech Architecture Foundation.
