OFFCITY ARCHITECTS MARTIN BEĎATŠ
Thursday, October 30, 2014, from 19:00 at Divadlo 29 / Sv. Anežky České 29, Pardubice
As part of the first autumn lecture of the Offcity architects series, whose common theme this year is the development and planning of the city and the role of the urban architect, we will move a bit further east to the western Slovak city of Trenčín, the geographical center of the Považie lowlands. We will take a look at how the city is being developed by our closest neighbors, with whom we still have much in common. Martin Beďatš, the guest of this evening, was a member of the architectural office FoS (Fabrication of Space), with which he participated in several architectural competitions with good results, including awards. Many of these were related to the city of Trenčín, where Martin Beďatš has held the position of head of the Chief Architect's Office since 2011. During his tenure in Trenčín, he became the initiator of the participatory urban planning process TRENČÍN si TY, focusing on the connection of the waterfront with the city. This was an almost three-year communication process with both the professional and general public, during which representatives of the city participated in many open discussions with the professional community, multidisciplinary-focused expert seminars and consultations, as well as discussions with the general public and public opinion surveys.
“After all the discussions, I sense two fundamental feelings among the local residents. Firstly, there is skepticism and a loss of trust that something good can happen in our city. However, secondly, there is also a spark of a certain devotion that still binds them to the city where they live. People here realize the potential of Trenčín, they love it, and they have a certain attachment to it.”
What was the outcome of the mentioned participatory process? Can this project be inspirational for Pardubice as well? Come and discuss with us too!
Admission: 50 CZK
Organized by Offcity z. s. in cooperation with Divadlo 29 as part of the OFFCITY 2014 project. This project is realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the statutory city of Pardubice, and the Czech Architecture Foundation.
Thursday, November 13, 2014, from 19:00 at Divadlo 29, Sv. Anežky České 29, Pardubice The penultimate lecture of this year's Offcity series on the topic of urban development and planning will not welcome an architect or a civil servant, but a politician, an elected representative who directly creates and implements visions related to the development of the city. Pavel Janšta, the second deputy mayor of the seven-thousand-strong South Bohemian town of Vodňany, decided four years ago to get involved in the events of his city. During one electoral term, many things have been successfully achieved in Vodňany. Among other things, the reconstruction of the Blanice sports complex was successfully completed according to the winning project of the architectural competition by Edit! architects, and the visual style of the city was changed. Last but not least, the forest park in Zátiší began to experience significant transformation. The initiation of this transformation, called re:vodňany, was awarded in 2012 with the prestigious Grand Prix award from the Association of Architects for Architectural Design - Minor Architecture or Artistic Work in Architecture. Can a small town inspire a larger one?
