On Monday, May 21, 2018, at 5:00 PM, a lecture by painter Patrik Hábl from Prague's UMPRUM will take place in room B510 at the Faculty of Architecture VUT in Brno, Poříčí 5, where he will analyze Le Corbusier's painting career. Le Corbusier was accompanied by a lifelong passion for painting. At the beginning of his career, the sale of his paintings actually helped him supplement his income as a professional architect. Le Corbusier spent every morning in his painting studio, creating paintings and sculptures, and in the afternoon he visited his architectural office, which he ran together with his cousin Pierre Jeanneret. Le Corbusier had a refined sense of color. Together with the Swiss wallpaper manufacturer Salubra, they created a color sample based on Le Corbusier's color theory. Even early in his purist work, Le Corbusier's creations were filled with colorful surfaces. In the post-war period, his painting career intertwined with his architectural work, and Le Corbusier's paintings became an integral part of his buildings. The range of techniques remains as diverse as the number of styles that Le Corbusier changed throughout his life. Painting on concrete, plaster, glass, wood, or hand-woven tapestries. Le Corbusier's houses can be perceived as residential sculptures, and urban ensembles can largely be considered artistic compositions.

“I am known only as an architect; no one wants to recognize me as a painter, even though I came to architecture precisely through painting.”
Le Corbusier
