At the first PechaKucha Night in Ostrava, leading Czech architects and designers will present their ideas
Ostrava (12.08.2010) – Petr Babák, Grand Designer of the Year 2009, SIAL studio, authors of this year's Czech pavilion at EXPO, and Daniel Piršč, who has gained worldwide fame for his porcelain works – these are the main attractions of the first Ostrava PechaKucha Night. An evening where visual arts personalities will present their works will take place in Ostrava for the first time on Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Provoz Hlubina. As part of the program, which will start at 20:20, a total of 15 personalities from architecture, design, and photography will perform.
Although this is the first PechaKucha evening in Ostrava, we have managed, thanks to the fame of the PechaKucha format and the hard work of the entire team, to create a truly exceptional guest list,” says Pavel Polok, one of the organizers of the event, adding: “The presentation is meant primarily as inspiration. It is not a boring summary of an artist's work, but a presentation of new ideas, bringing ideas closer, and conveying the experiences of the presenter. The impressions and thoughts that the presentation leaves in you can be further developed after it is over. The bar and the opportunity to chat with other participants, organizers, and the personalities themselves in a pleasant environment are an integral part of the concept and charm of PechaKucha Night.” Participants will have the chance to meet architectural icons from Ostrava, such as the creator of the now-discussed Pyramid above Ostrava, David Kotek, or David Průša from Studio Platforma Ostrava. The organizers highlight the participation of two young fashion designers – Jana Bieliková and Leo Macenauer, who gained visibility through the recently held project czech.slovak. From design, we also mention Jaroslav Juřica, who is just beginning his career but has already gained experience from NASA in the USA. The capacity of the event is limited, and entry is free. The venue, Provoz Hlubina, opens at 18:40 and is located near the Důl Hlubina stop. The end of the actual presentations is expected at 23:00; however, the associated bar and chillout space will remain open long after. Come and experience the much-praised atmosphere of this globally sought-after showcase of visual arts.
