Ostrava (September 6, 2011) – A year ago, the PechaKucha Night project was presented for the first time in Ostrava at the Hlubina Mine area. Its aim is to inspire and entertain participants with presentations from personalities in design, architecture, and other creative fields. Now, a year later, the event is returning to industrial spaces, as it will be hosted this Saturday at the Michal Mine.

“We want to offer people an unforgettable experience in every way, which is why PechaKucha Night Ostrava always takes place in a different location. The Michal Mine is a return to industrial settings, and we would like to make this place accessible to those who have not yet visited, as well as show those who have, the area in a completely new light.” describes the project's concept Martin Lindovský, one of the organizers.

PechaKucha Night has had four very successful installments in Ostrava, with the last one, held at the House of Art, attracting over six hundred people. “We have always filled the venues to the brim, and we take the great interest as confirmation that what we are trying to achieve in Ostrava makes sense. At the same time, we see it as a significant commitment to our fans.” describes Lindovský's feelings about the high attendance.

At the Michal Mine, which is a national cultural monument, an attractive mix of personalities will be presented on Saturday: from the Ostrava photographer Boris Renner, to successful designers such as Radim Babák from Hippos Design and Martin Jakobsen, and Markéta Ubíková from the civic initiative Čisté nebe. Each speaker's presentation follows the 20x20 format—exactly 20 images, each commented on for exactly 20 seconds. This way, presenters do not bore the audience with excessive details and technicalities but rather introduce new ideas and concepts, which opens the event to a wide public audience.

The project aims to familiarize participants not only with interesting ideas and works but also with each other. Therefore, a part of the evening's program is an informal afterparty where the audience can meet and discuss current topics with the presenters and organizers.

The event will take place on September 10, 2011, at 18:00 in the Michal Mine area in Ostrava-Michálkovice. The actual start of the presentations is symbolically set for 20:20. Information about the event, the guests, and photos from previous PechaKucha Nights can be found on the event's Facebook page or on the official website.
