The House of Art will come alive with the celebration of the first year of PechaKucha Night Ostrava
On Saturday, June 11, 2011, the center of Ostrava will be filled with fans of design, architecture, and other visual fields. The fourth PechaKucha Night Ostrava promises a grand celebration of its first year of existence not only with eleven interesting presenters but also with a new live outdoor projection and two bars for those who cannot fit into the main hall of the House of Art Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava due to capacity constraints.
“PechaKucha Night has always been the opposite of boring, lengthy presentations about art; our fourth Ostrava edition is truly a party for culture lovers.” says Martin Lindovský, one of the organizers of this event. “We managed to bring true leaders in their fields and talented young artists to the House of Art. And because there is enormous interest in attending from the audience and we are celebrating a year since our founding, we decided to make those who can't fit in the gallery hall happy. On Saturday, we will be live-streaming all the presentations in the garden of the House of Art, and anyone can come and experience the atmosphere of PechaKucha Night for themselves.” describes Lindovský the novelty, an outdoor space with live projection and two bars, where the afterparty will also take place.
The list of mentioned presenters also suggests that the fourth Ostrava "night of chatter", as the exotic-sounding name can be translated, will be worth it. Alongside what is presumably the best young Czech photographer Tereza Vlčková, designer Jan Čapek will present, who has designed, among other things, bottles of Mattoni mineral water or the current half-liter glasses for Radegast and Kozel beer brands, or Petr Kvíčala, one of the most significant contemporary Czech painters.
PechaKucha Night is built on the 20x20 presentation format. Each presentation consists of exactly 20 images, with each image commented on for exactly 20 seconds. Presenters do not bore the audience with excessive details and technicalities but rather introduce new ideas and concepts, which opens the event to a wide audience. After the presentations, all audience members have the opportunity to discuss informally with the presenters, as PechaKucha Night is mainly about an inspiring atmosphere, about space for meeting people and ideas. Ostrava's PechaKucha Nights are fundamentally free.
The complete list of presenters includes: Jan Čapek, Lukáš Kijonka for Kolektiv, minimon, Miloslav Brzák for Custom Boards, Tereza Vlčková, Ondřej Zita and Michal Sloboda for Designboys, Martin Křivánek, NDM, Rudolf Šmíd, Petr Kvíčala and the anniversary presentation of the PechaKucha Night Ostrava itself.
The event takes place on June 11, 2011, at the House of Art GVUO, behind the Elektra stop. Information about the event, guests, and photos from previous PechaKucha Nights can be found on the Facebook page of the event or on the official website.
