Fresh Fruit and Archtung cordially invite you to a lecture by an architectural studio founded in Moscow.
SINGULARCH: KOSMOS (Moscow, RUS) 30.10.2019 / 20:00 / Faculty of Architecture STU – Kotolňa, Námestie slobody 9, Bratislava Kotolňa – space of the reconstructed old boiler room of the Faculty of Architecture STU / entrance from the foyer The lecture will be held in English.
KOSMOS Architects is a studio founded in Moscow by young architects – Artem Kitaev, Leonid Slonimskiy, and Nikolay Martynov. Their work is characterized by the fusion of art and technology, global experience with respect for the local context, and last but not least, European professionalism and Russian drive. Current virtual collaboration connects partners based in Basel, Moscow, Bangkok, and New York. They deal with creating environments of all types and scales: from a door handle to a city; from hardcore architecture to pop-art installations. The name of the studio KOSMOS can be read from its original definition in ancient Greek, "order" / "ordered universe". The opposite meaning, "chaos", refers to generic buildings and their identifying objects. KOSMOS draws inspiration from these utilitarian elements of architecture – learning from them and seeking ways to organize and compose them into their diverse projects. But last but not least, KOSMOS also means "space", which connects its "partners" across the borders of countries and continents.
Before the main lecture, a traditional format of HOW IT IS will take place with the subtitle "Works in Public Space". Why is contemporary art absent in today's public space? How to bring a tangible artwork into it? How does the process of these works function from ideas to realization, and who initiates these processes? Public space is one of the most frequently discussed socio-cultural topics in our society. It concerns all of us, yet it seldom excites us through enrichment by contemporary art. The absence of architectural or artistic works in the space, however, generates unique views, opinions, and solutions from active residents who inject permanent or temporary art into our shared public space. The discussion will feature Danica Pišteková, a member of the architectural studio WOVEN, which focuses on temporary spatial installations, exhibitions, organizing active 1:1 workshops, and various educational programs. Another guest will be architect Michal Sládek, production manager of the Pohoda Festival, who for several years has announced the Pohoda Visual Art Contest, which offers the opportunity to design an art installation for the festival grounds. Michal is one of the founders of the civic association ARCHIMERA, which has several interventions to its credit, such as BAKE – a cycle path through Slovakia along cultural monuments, the exhibition by Vladimír Dedeček titled WORK, or a series of workshops in Trenčianske Teplice. The discussion will also feature Zuzana Pacáková, an art lover, founder, and artistic director of the unique festival White Night in Slovakia. The guest list concludes with Paulína Ebringerová, who currently works at the Faculty of Architecture STU as a research staff member in the field of art, design, and architecture presentation. The discussion will be led by journalist and curator Zuzana Duchová, who, alongside her work for the Creative Europe Desk Slovakia, where she deals with project management of cultural projects and grants and leads the project salónik.sk, has co-organized several events at the intersection of art, architecture, and creative tourism while theoretically studying cultural life in cities.

SINGULARCH is a series of lectures in the fields of architecture and urbanism, transcending interdisciplinary spheres. The goal of the project is to bring closer the issues of shaping our environment, not only from the architectural and urbanistic perspective but also from psychological and sociological ones. The main intention of SINGULARCH is to present proven and effective practices from around the world and showcase unique projects directly from their creators. The format of lectures and discussions aims to benefit professionals and architecture students, educate everyone, and serve as a first step towards a certain change and to spark interest in what is happening around us. Since 2012, the following architects have been featured: Ronald Rietveld (Rietveld Landscape, Amsterdam), Kersten Geers (OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen, Brussels), RAUM (Nantes), FALA (Porto), Bureau B+B (Amsterdam), FAKT (Berlin), RAAMWERK (Brussels), CIRCOLO-A (Genoa), TAB (Vienna), Toni Gironés Saderra (Barcelona), and ORA (Znojmo). We are very pleased that in 2019 our second invitation was accepted by the architects KOSMOS (Moscow). We believe that their work will also be inspiring for all of us.
