As part of the lecture series 'Architect in Practice' aimed at second-year MSP students, there will be a lecture by Professor Václav Girsa, who has long focused on the topic of conservation and restoration of historical architectural works, held on Thursday, November 22, 2018, at 5:00 PM in room A118 at FA VUT (Poříčí 5, Brno 2). The lecture is open to all interested parties at the faculty and the general public.
The lecture Two Castles, Two Approaches, Two Provocations presents the story of the restoration of significant monuments in the recent projects of the atelier GIRSA AT s.r.o. The contribution highlights the adaptations of the interiors of Hrádek - the oldest part of the castle in Český Krumlov and the restoration of the severely damaged spaces of Thurnovský Palace at Lipnice nad Sázavou, where a distinctive approach to solving the issues from both a heritage and architectural perspective was chosen. Prof. Ing. arch. akad. arch. Václav Girsa (*1945 Prague) studied architecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU Prague (1969), and subsequently continued his studies at the School of Architecture under Professor František Cubr at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1972). From 1971 to 1990, he was employed at the State Institute for the Reconstruction of Heritage Cities and Objects in Prague (SÚRPMO). Since 1991, he has been co-leading the private practice GIRSA AT s.r.o. with architect M. Hanzl for the restoration and conservation of historical buildings, and since 1992 has been a faculty member at FA CTU (1995 habilitation in the field of reconstruction and preservation of monuments and appointed professor at CTU in 2008). Since September 2008, he has been the head of the Institute of Heritage Care at FA CTU. Since January 2015, he has been the president of the Czech National Committee of ICOMOS.
