Christian Kerez

The cycle "Swiss-Czech Inspirations" was opened on Thursday, March 6, 2014, by the significant Swiss architect Christian Kerez, who is currently designing an unconventional family house in the Czech Republic. Christian Kerez was born in 1962 in Venezuela and studied architecture at ETH, which he represented as a professor during the lecture. He initially focused intensively on publishing about architectural photography, and currently he is engaged in designs and works on various projects of different scales in France, the Czech Republic, Brazil, and China. His projects appear in most significant exhibitions of contemporary art and architecture and are covered by prestigious global media. Among his most interesting realizations is the Museum of Art in Vaduz – a black object in the middle of the city, which he designed together with Morger & Degelo Architects, and the widely published glass new school building with a bold structure in Leutschenbach, Zurich. He also gained fame for the small concrete chapel (Oberrealta Chapel) in the 1990s.
During the one-hour lecture, Christian Kerez presented several of his projects. He first introduced a house he designed for his mother in a residential neighborhood in northern Zurich. He also talked about the successful realization of the school in Leutschenbach, Zurich, and his skyscraper projects. He mentioned a project he is currently designing in Prague. After the lecture, there was about a fifteen-minute discussion.
