A fire pit that won't burn and is integrated directly into the lawn. You won’t have to deal with any burned spots. This is the new fire pit from de.fakto. When architect Martin Sladký was looking for the ideal fire pit for his garden, he discovered that what he was looking for did not exist. So he made one according to his own design.
Martin designed the fire pit in three basic shapes: circular, hexagonal, and a handmade wrought irregular oval. There are also versions intended for embedding in gentle slopes. They are made of corten steel and will develop a beautiful rusty patina after a few months. With its minimalist design and integration into the terrain, it does not disrupt the garden's composition. Its shape allows lawn mowing around the fire pit with both standard and robotic mowers. "I didn't find anything like it anywhere, so I just made it up. I thought about what to do next, because I really like the idea... So in the end, we made a small e-shop at de.fakto just for these fire pits. We'll see how others like it..." laughs Martin Sladký.
No, it really won't burn you
"The temperature of the outer ring when the fire is lit reaches between 40–70 °C. The temperature of the central part of the fire pit, which is usually between 350–400 °C, does not transfer significantly to the outer ring, thanks to a trick that you can see once you purchase the fire pit. Unfortunately, I can't reveal more," says Sladký. The outer ring is also angled away from the fire, further reducing its temperature caused by the fire's radiation.
Reduced air turbulence with smoke
Thanks to the optimal shape of the fire pit, air turbulence is reduced during gusts of wind, preventing chaotic smoke spreading in all directions from the fire pit.
Teepee shape
To start a fire, it's best to stack logs in the shape of a teepee tent. The slant of the inner surface of the fire pit is also ideal for this purpose.
Anyone can handle the installation. The fire pit simply settles into the lawn, leaving a pocket under its center for rainwater to drain and a bit of ash to fall through. Small openings in the middle of the fire pit serve this purpose. Then all that's left is to enjoy the comfort and the sausages.
de.fakto, an architectural and design studio, has been operating continuously since 2001. The de.fakto studio focuses on design and the subsequent comprehensive realization of buildings and interiors under its authorship supervision. This way, de.fakto achieves maximum functional and aesthetic quality of execution with an emphasis on detail and a specific approach to each assignment. The team of architect-designers led by Martin Sladký and Filip Hejzlar operates in offices in Prague's Vinohrady, where they also have an original showroom available for their clients. Part of the de.fakto studio's know-how is also a modern carpentry workshop and many years of successful collaboration with several proven artisan manufacturers and professionals.
