The latest novelty among handles, born from the collaboration of the design duo Herrmann&Coufal and the Czech manufacturer M&T, has no equivalent in the world of door hardware. Thanks to the pronounced asymmetry of its shape, the UP&DOWN handle offers completely unique variability for door leaves.

Transforming the appearance of the handle and its operation simply by changing its position on the door? That is precisely what the new asymmetrical UP&DOWN hardware allows. “The uniqueness of the UP&DOWN hardware lies in the option of choice – it can be both UP and also DOWN. It depends on each individual which variant they prefer and how they install the handle on the door leaf,” states Eduard Herrmann from the design duo Herrmann&Coufal, who is the author of this design concept. The variability of the handle also brings another advantage – over time, it can be easily rotated, giving the door a fresh, new look thanks to its distinctive character.
The design of the UP&DOWN handle has been conceived by its authors as a work of art, a sculpture, whose distinct expression stands out more on minimalist doors with clean decor. The idea of creating door hardware has been with the designers since their studies when this theme captured their interest during classes. “We approached the Czech manufacturer M&T with several proposals, and it was the imaginative design of the UP handle that caught their attention. Together with Roman Ulich, we further developed its design, and during this collaboration, the idea of installing the handle in both ways – UP and DOWN – emerged. M&T completely took charge of the structural aspects, so we could fully focus on the design of the handle,” says Eduard Herrmann.
The basic material of the UP&DOWN hardware is solid brass, which stands out for its high strength and durability. The handle can be selected in one of six surface finishes – black matte titanium, matte brass titanium, matte brown titanium, matte chrome titanium, matte nickel, and shiny chrome.
