The company KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION s.r.o. has capitalized on the promotion of modular kindergartens and helped resolve the shortage of capacity in kindergartens in various parts of our country during the holidays. From September first, more than one hundred seventy mothers can enroll their children in kindergartens. Engaging architects has resulted in interesting modular buildings that have caught the media's attention.

First and foremost, a four-class two-story kindergarten in Jihlava has attracted attention, built on pre-prepared foundations in six weeks. Thanks to the construction method using spatial modules, which resembled train cars to the children, the kindergarten was named "Mašinka" (Little Train). The kindergarten is partially clad with an insulation system featuring yellow plaster with child-friendly motifs. On the side adjacent to the forest and the playground, it is clad with wooden siding made of steamed pine. Due to the special construction system, the individual joints of the modules are not visible in the classrooms, as is common in container buildings. The entire span of each classroom, which is 9 meters, is not interrupted by support columns. Each classroom has a different color scheme, including the furniture. Although modular buildings demonstrate excellent thermal insulation properties, to enhance the comfort of children who mostly play on the floor, underfloor electric heating has been added in the playroom. Food is transported by elevator, and the classrooms are equipped with audio and video technology.

The interior surfaces consist of Fermacell cement-bonded fiberboards that meet the required fire resistance and, unlike drywall, allow for easy hanging of pictures, shelves, etc. Sanitary rooms are tiled with ceramic tiles. The floors in the sanitary rooms and hallways are fitted with tiles, while the individual classrooms have PVC and carpets. Heating is managed through hot water radiators. Hot water is supplied from a nearby school, and the heating of the modular kindergarten is controlled through a heat exchange station located on the ground floor of the building. All installations are routed within the walls.

Throughout the construction period, the project was monitored by local media, city councilors, and the parents themselves. Everyone was surprised by the speed and quality of the work done. The results convinced the participants that modular construction is comparable to standard construction and additionally, it can be realized in an extremely short timeframe that standard construction cannot match. Furthermore, modular buildings can be used immediately. The representatives of the city of Jihlava initially wanted to take advantage of another benefit of modular buildings; that when the new kindergarten's capacity is no longer needed, it could be relocated to another site or sold independently of the land. However, the outcome of the construction convinced them that they are no longer considering relocating the building.

The cost of the kindergarten, including the substructure, playground, fencing, and landscaping, did not exceed twenty million crowns. Additionally, the city of Jihlava received a 92.5% grant from European funds, which means that the construction of the four-class kindergarten for 100 children only burdened the Jihlava budget by one and a half million crowns.

In addition to this modular kindergarten, the company implemented other container kindergartens during the holidays, where the main reasons for construction were cost and speed, located in Modřice, Pozořice, and Staňkov. More information can be found at:
