The CSI testing laboratory in Zlín recently confirmed the high airborne and impact sound insulation of the new fermacell Silentio product. This essentially means that with fermacell Silentio materials, the ceilings of wooden buildings are almost silent.
The results of the tests are good news for everyone considering wooden construction, for manufacturers of wooden buildings, and for those planning to renovate wooden beam ceilings. Fermacell materials achieve excellent parameters, making walking not only inaudible in family homes but especially in apartment buildings. This fact significantly increases the attractiveness of wooden structures and directly predisposes them to more frequent use in the construction of apartment buildings, where audible footsteps can be a significant problem.
Based on the testing, results were demonstrated that significantly exceed the values of materials commonly used so far. Just for reference, the measured values of impact sound insulation reached only 40 dB, while the standard for family homes is 63 dB and for apartment buildings 55 dB. It is thus quite clear that these values prove that fermacell materials stand at the forefront of construction materials intended for wooden buildings.
During the tests, a total of 8 samples of fermacell materials passed the EN ISO 717-1 Airborne Sound Insulation and EN ISO 717-1 Impact Sound Insulation tests. The measurements utilized new fermacell system products, specifically: the new floor element fermacell 2 E 16 (consisting of 2 x 10 mm thick fermacell gypsum fiberboard and a 9 mm thick layer of felt), as well as the fermacell Silentio board with thicknesses of 20 and 15 mm, the new fermacell acoustic profile, and the fermacell TB gypsum fiberboard with a profiled edge. The tests clearly demonstrated the excellent properties of all tested fermacell systems. Specific results are in the attached table.
The new fermacell Silentio system raises the quality of wooden constructions to a higher level. Its qualities are particularly appreciated by manufacturers of prefabricated wooden beam ceilings and contractors of wooden beam ceilings on site. Moreover, the system is also very well applicable for regular renovations of wooden beam ceilings.
