Solara, s. r. o.

Thanks to good cooperation with the heritage office and a capable builder, the inner roof of the historic house in the center of Vienna is equipped with three large sliding skylights from Solara PERSPEKTIV. Just a few steps from the symbol of Vienna, St. Stephen's Cathedral.

The sliding roof glazing Solara PERSPEKTIV is a luxurious alternative to traditional skylights. The sliding wings of the windows allow for visual and spatial openness of the attic rooms and their maximum illumination. When installed at floor level, the glazing can also be used to access the rooftop terrace. The sliding glazings PERSPEKTIV are one of many products offered by Solara s.r.o. - alongside skylights, roof balconies and access points, large-scale roof glazing, etc.
Solara PERSPEKTIV is a custom product - the size, division of fields, and direction of movement are addressed individually according to the user's wishes, the architect's or designer's intentions, and the possibilities of the building. The sliding system developed for exposed weather conditions of roofs is made from stainless steel and protected by a patent, allowing for light and smooth manual sliding (or electric drive control). The window profiles and glazing are made from selected planed solid pine with high-pressure or oil/wax surface treatment. External cladding and flashing in Rheinzink, aluminum, copper, or other materials. In addition to double glazing, special energy-efficient triple glazing (Ug=0.5 W/m²K) is frequently used, which, together with the window structure, guarantees thermal comfort in the attic throughout the year.

For the Vienna project, in addition to formats, materials, and colors, the embedding of glazing into the roof structure was addressed to ensure that even the highest glazing elements do not protrude above the plane of the roof covering. The frames and casements of the Vienna implementation are made from selected planed solid pine with a clear high-pressure surface treatment. The external cladding and flashing are made from titanium zinc, with glazing using energy-efficient triple glazing Suncool with a thermal transmittance value of Ug=0.6 W/m²K.

"We focus on year-round thermal comfort - we address the composition of the triple glazing, materials, and technology used for the actual glazing and the profiling of window frames. For several seasons, we have been striving to change the common perception of the climate in the attic: overheated in summer, cold in winter." comments Jakub Formánek, a member of the family management of Solara. "We enjoy working with wood, which is an excellent basic material for fully custom production. We can change profiles and shapes of glazing and afford to create many atypical things."

The company has been dedicated to the revival of Czech craftsmanship for a long time, with a large part of the production process benefiting from handwork. Collaboration with Czech, German, and Austrian investors provides valuable feedback for further development.
