In the town of Vastorf in Lower Saxony, the Czech company KOMA MODULAR realized a design store for furniture and interior furnishings for the German company COMMA. However, this is not a standard building, just as the goods sold in it are not standard. The sales assortment consists of futuristic design products that attract attention primarily due to the explicit use of stainless steel and glass. Such a style of interior furnishings requires a different space for its presentation than a traditional masonry building, which is why KOMA MODULAR created a solution that also gives an unusual impression. The resulting building consists of eleven modular containers measuring 6 x 3 meters, which remain in their structural nakedness, currently reflecting the trend of a desire for maximum authenticity. Therefore, the facade was left without any additional "beautifying" cladding. The only thing protecting it from the weather elements is a coating of neutral gray shade. The authors added a humorous color accent to the building in the form of red supporting beams, welded into an H shape, which support the projecting modules of the second floor. This element is partly functional, partly a design whim, which has one main goal - to attract attention through non-verbal means and adorn the building with an artwork of modern character. The upper floor was created by fully connecting four modules without using any internal supports. This resulted in one large exhibition hall, which is the main theme of the entire design. Thanks to the full glazing of the front wall of the room and its elevated position above the surrounding terrain, the visitor feels as if they have found themselves in a display window rather than in a store, or even a sales warehouse. In the ground floor, consisting of seven modules, there is an office that also has a fully glazed wall and serves simultaneously as a second presentation space, as the furniture sold by the company is also used by its employees. The total floor area of these two showcase spaces is 144 m². The elegance of the interior was achieved by the contrasting combination of white drywall walls and anthracite black aluminum door and window frames. The entire composition is further complemented by a staircase with stainless steel steps and again black-painted mesh railing. The opposite of the airy display room is the space of the social facilities, which is instead toned in dark colors with white elements of furnishings. The use of dark flooring and tiling further enhances the impression of an impregnable chamber. In addition, there is a storage room with a workshop of 31 m² and a garage with sectional electric doors and an area of 18 m² in the building. These rooms form the back part of the ground floor and have only a minimal number of window openings. The cherry on top and pride of the new design showroom is the terrace located on the roof of the first floor. Its floor is made of tropical wood planks, and the entire area of 36 m² is framed by the same anthracite railing made of mesh. For clients, this terrace offers a space for pleasant seating over coffee with a view of the surroundings. The construction of this house from the start of production to complete finishing took less than three months, with the longest part (6 weeks) being the manufacture of specific aluminum windows and doors. This further proves that this method of construction, due to the combination of speed + quality of execution, is a very strong competitor to traditional methods of construction.
