KOMA MODULAR s.r.o.

The ceremonial opening of the Health and Safety Center in Karlovy Vary marked the completion of construction on Friday, September 11. This unique project will serve for education and training in risk prevention and extraordinary life situations for children and their parents.

The variability, speed of construction, and easy portability of the KOMA system convinced EUROVIA CS to build the exceptional Health and Safety Center using modular technology.

The center is designed for children, who will learn how to prevent injuries and how to behave during accidents, fires, or other crisis situations. "The recently completed construction took 10 months and cost 50 million Czech crowns, which is very fast and relatively inexpensive compared to conventional construction. I am satisfied that the KOMA system proves it can build a pavilion for EXPO as well as a colorful and variable center for children," explains KOMA's marketing director Martin Hart, who shortly thereafter reveals the project's financing. It is co-financed from the resources of the European Regional Development Fund through the Regional Operational Program Northwest.

Modular Town

In the area located in the Tuhnice district, children from kindergartens, elementary, and high schools will try out in scaled-down models of buildings how to behave in the face of potential danger. Besides the central building, it features a small town with a hospital, police station, fire station, family house, and emergency services station. For these purposes, modules that can be freely modified as needed are ideally suited.

"For better visibility, each pavilion has its distinct expression, different shape, and other color. The fire station consists of a set of modules with a tall tower in the typical red color, while the police building is in a combination of blue and yellow; the hospital also has its typical colors." Martin Hart explains. The distinction of the buildings will help children remember the components of the integrated rescue system along with the emergency phone numbers, which are prominently marked on all buildings.

Traffic Playground and Poisonous Garden

Adjacent to the training town is a traffic playground for training young drivers, and the area will further be complemented by park landscaping and thematic gardens, where children will familiarize themselves with common herbs and their uses, as well as with poisonous plants and trees. In the so-called "poisonous garden," children will learn not only what to be cautious of in nature but also which poisonous plants can, conversely, be used for healing. A welcome addition to the area is undoubtedly a pond, which should serve both for recreation and swimming, as well as for exploring various animal and plant species.

Modules as an Ideal Solution for Simulating Crisis Situations

This interesting educational center project shows further possibilities of utilizing modular construction, which is ideal due to its variability and allows for the adaptation of the area to simulate specific crisis situations. Thanks to the economic accessibility of the modules, a functional model of a town can be created that closely resembles a real environment where children might find themselves in a dangerous situation. According to foreign statistics, similar facilities help reduce the number of injuries among children who have undergone training at the center.

"When I look at the purpose and goals of this area, I am proud that KOMA participates in such activities. We are very pleased that the modular systems of KOMA will help children prepare for crisis situations that they may encounter in life." Martin Hart reflects on the project.
