The Čelákovice train station is undergoing extensive modernization. The station building and its surroundings represent a central element that has been addressed comprehensively, allowing for visual cohesion of the entire structure.
The artistic motif of the roof over the platform adjacent to the station building is a row of trees, including benches placed "under the trees" evoking seating in a village square. The roof design involved preserving the existing structure, which needed to be strengthened for static reasons. The original structure was also complex, unsightly, and difficult to maintain, so a cladding of high-pressure laminate with high mechanical resistance was proposed, combined with painted steel panels. All cable routes and drainage systems are integrated under the cladding. Regular inspections or additions of cabling are ensured by using removable parts. These designed technical elements then directly inspired the designers with the idea of a tree: the trunks form the supporting columns of the roof, and the shapes of the crowns are defined by the geometric shapes of the metal cladding plates. The benches and other furniture used here come from the mmcité+ catalog, specifically from the Barka series.
Since mmcité+ also carried out the reconstruction of the historic building, it was possible to harmonize its new façade and roofing so that they appear visually uniform.
An important artistic task was to visually connect the station building with the technical building and the original restaurant. The technical buildings and elements are marked with a chocolate brown color, while the modern bistro, which has replaced the station restaurant, is a light color, as are the tables and chairs from the Tina series by Egoé that furnish the bistro.
The visual clarity of the entire building is emphasized by built-in lighting at the roofing and in the covered areas of the station building. LED fixtures in green covers evoke branches and thereby connect to the row of trees in the roofing of the first platform.
The covered spaces adjoining the station building on both sides required even more radical illumination. The solution was not easy to find. The initial proposal was to remove the back wall. However, since it is a load-bearing wall, this option was dismissed due to structural complexity, as well as the necessity to preserve the privacy of the residents of the adjacent property. The problem was eventually solved through the use of double-glazed panels with light tubes in both the upper and lower parts of the glazing. The original graphics by a local artist were replaced with a graphic representation of the railway bridge over the Elbe River in Čelákovice, designed at the request of the mayor of the city of Čelákovice.
Part of the solution for the Čelákovice train station was to provide parking for cyclists. The initial idea to establish a bike room in the building of the former restaurant was rejected due to its small capacity and long access routes for cyclists. The Czech Railway Administration (SŽDC) then provided space on its land in the adjacent pre-station area for the construction of a bike tower, which is a modern fully automated parking system for up to 118 bicycles. The materials and colors of the bike tower are designed to aesthetically connect with the station building and roofing while respecting the character of the location where it is situated.
mmcité+ was wholly responsible for the harmonious appearance and quality of the station building and its adjacent spaces. The quality of the solution and attention to the final craftsmanship details was achieved through close collaboration between the designer, constructor, and project manager.
