Evaluation of the Conference Timber Buildings in Practice II.

The second annual professional conference "Timber Structures in Practice," organized by Rigips, s.r.o., took place on November 6-7, 2008, in Hrotovice near Třebíč. The number of participants from design and construction companies specializing in timber buildings reached 250. Although it was only the second year, the high number of interested parties clearly confirmed that the topics of timber buildings, with an emphasis on practical experiences, continue to attract the attention of the professional public.

During the two-day conference, 18 lectures were held, and the entire event was supported by 17 partners. The conference was included in the lifelong learning project of ČKAIT and awarded 2 credit points. It was held under the auspices of the Association of Suppliers of Prefabricated Houses.

The speakers addressed current issues, examples of practical implementations, correct technological solutions for critical points on constructions, fire resistance and safety of building structures, experiences from occupancy proceedings during state fire supervision, statics, sound insulation properties of timber buildings, the issue of design work in connection with construction execution and many other topics. Always with a focus on practice, experiences, correct and incorrect procedures, and guidelines for solutions in the construction of timber buildings.

Technicians from various partner companies were available throughout the conference, presenting the correct technological solutions, showcasing material, product, and tool options, as well as proper work procedures.

The entire professional program met with very positive feedback. The speakers were specialists in their fields and shared their experiences and insights at a high level. A testament to the interest in the topics would undoubtedly be the full hall of listeners even in the late afternoon hours.
It is not possible to list all the interesting contributions here. The greatest attention and also very high ratings in surveys were received by presentations on the topic of fire resistance and safety, which were addressed by the following speakers: Petr Kuklík, Associate Prof., Ph.D., CEng., Head of the Department of Wooden Structures at the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague, with the topic Determining the fire resistance of wooden structures by calculation, Ing. Isabela Bradáčová, CSc., Head of the Department of Fire Protection and Population Protection at the Faculty of Safety Engineering of the VSB - Technical University of Ostrava, with the topic Construction of timber buildings from the perspective of fire protection, Ing. Jiří Pokorný, Ph.D., Head of the Prevention Department of the Fire Rescue Service of the Moravian-Silesian Region, with the topic Experiences from occupancy proceedings during state fire supervision.

Among the most prominent lectures addressing the technology of material application were the topics Technical solutions for Rigidur fiber gypsum boards and New Rigidur floor compositions by product manager Jiří Provázek from Rigips, s.r.o., as well as Common mistakes in the implementation of insurance waterproofing and vapor barriers in pitched roofs by technician Karel Bulín from Dörken, s.r.o., and Why and when to use software for timber structure designs by technician Ing. Vladislav Dvořák from SEMACZ, s.r.o.
The contribution by doc. Ing. Jan Krňanský, CSc., from Insowool, s.r.o., on the topic of new Diffusion-open structures Rigips-diffuwall® was also discussed.

From the high-level lectures on the second day, it is necessary to mention Sound insulation properties of timber buildings, explained by RNDr. Josef Vrána, CSc., head of the department in Zlín CSI, a.s., or Statica of wooden structures by Ing. Antonín Hončík.

Rigips is preparing the third annual conference "Timber Structures in Practice" based on all the positive feedback, which will again be held next November.
