Most - The library building in Most will be transformed into a creative and educational center. The city will now announce a public tender for the project to convert the building into a modern space designated for creative work, education, and community gatherings. The costs are estimated at 32.5 million crowns. This was reported today by the spokesperson of the city hall, Klára Vydrová, after a council meeting.

The library itself will move to the Repre cultural house in the city center, which is being renovated. By the end of the year, the reconstruction, which is estimated to cost around one billion crowns, should be mostly completed. The cultural house, along with the library, could open to the public in the middle of next year. The city has been considering what to do with the vacant building after the library, and one of the options was to sell the property. The city council ultimately decided to provide the building to basic art schools.

The project plans to create spaces for various artistic and creative activities. The building for the municipal library began construction in the late 1980s. The new building opened to the public in 1985 and boasts, among other things, the longest chandelier in European libraries. A double helix made of glass tubes winds above the book shelves along the entire length of the building. The work of artist glassmaker Vladimír Procházka corresponds with the size of the open spaces that were being built at the time.
