The contrast of wood and concrete may seem bold at first glance. Massive beams, the natural grain of round timber, and a rustic atmosphere are traditionally associated with stone or ceramic tiles. Concrete overlay, however, enters such an environment in a different way – as a calm, neutral surface that allows the grain of the wood to stand out while also meeting the demands of contemporary living.

When modern surfaces meet traditional construction

Wooden log cabins have their specific charm, which is why the selection of additional materials is a sensitive issue.

Concrete screed in such a space does not appear as an alien element. On the contrary, it can function as a neutral base that visually unites the space while not overpowering the dominant wood. The key is the right choice of tone and texture. The surface does not have to be cold or industrial. The right shade naturally connects to the surrounding materials, creating a balanced contrast.

Betonepox® as the foundation for bathrooms and kitchens

In this implementation, the epoxy screed Betonepox® Classic was used, suitable for floors and walls. It was primarily applied in the bathroom and kitchen – that is, in areas with higher humidity and an emphasis on easy maintenance.

The screed was applied on the bathroom floor, in the shower area, on the wall behind the sink, and as the flooring in the kitchen. This resulted in a continuous, seamless surface without material interruption, which appears compact and calm. The absence of joints eliminates places where dirt could settle.

Dialogue of materials: warmth of wood and calmness of concrete

In the context of the log cabin, the concrete structure of the Betonepox® screed serves as a stable foundation. It does not overshadow the distinctive grain of the wooden walls or ceiling beams.

Architecturally, it’s about working with contrast – structured against compact, traditional against modern, warm against neutral.

Gray is not just one

Color plays a significant role in interior design. The Betonepox® screed is not limited to a single shade of gray – it can be warmer or cooler, for example with a subtle beige undertone. The surface can thus appear softer and calmer, or conversely, more technical and distinct, without losing the character of concrete. Working with these nuances allows for the alignment of colors with other materials used in the space, highlighting its overall atmosphere.

Modern comfort without losing rustic character

Concrete screed in wooden buildings does not represent a compromise between style and practicality. It allows for the preservation of the rustic foundation of the interior while providing a seamless solution, easy maintenance, and long durability of surfaces.

The combination of solid wood and concrete screed creates a space that respects traditional construction principles while meeting contemporary demands for comfort and functionality.
