Prague - Prague 8 will announce an architectural competition for modifications to the public space adjacent to the cultural house at the C metro station Ládví in the Ďáblice housing estate. The spokesperson for the city district, Martin Šalek, announced this in a press release today. The town hall estimates that it will invest about 120 million crowns into the square. The results of the competition, which the town hall is conducting in collaboration with the Czech Chamber of Architects, are expected to be known in August of this year.
According to Deputy Mayor of Prague 8 Radomír Nepil (ANO), the area around the cultural house is a natural center of the housing estate, but its current form does not reflect that. "Ládví has a great foundation - a pedestrian zone without cars, a strong location, and a tradition of gathering. However, it lacks a clear structure and quality that meets today’s needs," added the town mayor Ondřej Gros (ODS).
The town hall has prepared the competition brief using feedback collected from local residents. The final proposal will serve not only as a basis for the transformation of the square but also as inspiration for broader modifications in the surrounding area. "We have already succeeded with some minor adjustments. After more than 30 years, we restored the historic fountain and the surrounding relaxation area," added Deputy Mayor of Prague 8 Tomáš Hřebík (STAN).
The Ďáblice housing estate is located in the Kobylisy area and was built between 1969 and 1975. According to information from the city district, the estate is unique in that part of the buildings are arranged in blocks like in historical Prague neighborhoods, which separates the streets with traffic from the quiet inner blocks. The Ládví metro station began operating in 2004 as the terminus of line C until the opening of the next section to Letňany in 2008.
