Česká Třebová - Česká Třebová is preparing the revitalization of the New Square. Its current form dates back to the 1960s and no longer meets contemporary requirements. So far, the town hall has commissioned a study, with the next step being the preparation of project documentation, said Mayor Zdeněk Řehák (3PK - For a Prosperous CT) to ČTK.

The square has become outdated just a few decades after its creation. According to the study, it does not fulfill its intended purpose for residents, does not meet the necessary number of parking spaces, and the structure does not correspond to today's public space requirements.

Both the paved areas and the park section should be changed. Parking areas are proposed to be located along local roads or on a separate area near the park. Various options offer 77, 87, and 98 parking spaces on areas off the traffic lane, while currently there are 55, including roadside parking. There are plans to restore the network of paths in the park, which will respect the mature trees as much as possible. The project also considers a recreational staircase and a water feature in the central part of the square. Visualizations of the future appearance of the square can be found on the city website.

Řehák preliminarily estimated the total costs to be in the lower tens of millions of crowns. The project is likely to be implemented in phases, but it will have to wait for now. Česká Třebová does not have surplus funds. It is building a new municipal library for over 90 million crowns, which is being created on the site of the former welding school. It is also preparing the construction of Pavilion C of the seniors' home, for which the city has obtained up to 80 million crowns from the National Recovery Plan. Total costs are estimated to reach up to 300 million crowns, so the city will have to use a loan.

The New Square was created during housing construction in the 1960s. The city has been considering its revitalization since at least 2014, when it commissioned an architectural study.
