Přerov - The expert jury selected the five best proposals for the logo of the city of Přerov. The authors submitted nearly 200 designs to the public competition. The final decision on the best unified visual style will be made by the council members, but residents of Přerov can also participate in the voting in these days, said the city hall spokesperson Lenka Chalupová to ČTK today. The city hall had previously estimated the costs of changing the visual style to be half a million crowns.
A total of 197 proposals were submitted to the competition, and experts selected 21 for the shortlist. Five of the most successful proposals advanced to the second round, which their authors further developed according to the jury's conditions. "The competition was anonymous in the first round, and it is interesting that only designs from female graphic designers advanced to the second round," said city councilor Jan Horký (Together for Přerov).
The jury recently reassessed the developed proposals and selected a winning design, which they recommended to the city council for approval. However, the councilors may choose any of the five final proposals, Horký added.
The designs by the graphic designers feature symbols of the city, such as towers, the symbol of the European bison, or the waves of the Bečva River that flows through Přerov. The councilors will vote on the proposal next Thursday. People can already view the proposed visual styles on the city hall's website and also vote on them. Residents can express their opinions until the end of this week; the proposals are also on display in the exhibition hall Pasáž on Kratochvílová Street.
Searching for a logo is part of the unified visual style that Přerov will have for the first time in its history. The author of the winning proposal will receive 100,000 crowns, the second-place contestant will receive 40,000 crowns, and the third most successful participant will receive 30,000 crowns. A contract will be signed with the winner for the creation of a complete graphic manual, which will cost about 200,000 crowns.
Many cities in the Olomouc region use a logo. The Prostějov city hall recently announced a similar competition, but the search for a visual style here ended in failure. People sent 204 proposals to the public competition, five advanced to the final round, but none were liked by the councilors, and thus the city canceled the competition. It then approached graphic designer Věra Marešová, who had already created a logo and visual style for Brno. However, the city ultimately did not conclude a licensing agreement with her.
