Mnichovo Hradiště - Mnichovo Hradiště in the Mladá Boleslav region is preparing to modernize the elementary art school on Palackého street. In addition to the reconstruction of the historic building, a new structure with a multifunctional hall will be built on the premises. The city has an architectural study available and is starting to design the construction work, expecting that it could begin next year. The estimated costs, including equipment, are currently 91 million crowns. The city has already been promised a 19 million crown European grant and will strive for additional grants, Mayor Jiří Plíhal (Žijeme pro Hradiště) told ČTK today.
"The work will take place in stages; in the first phase, we want to focus on the historic building where the school is located, which underwent reconstruction in the early 90s," said Plíhal. An elevator will be added to the building, and a classroom for working with digital technologies as well as a recording studio will be created; a significant transformation is also expected for the dance hall. The modernization is also expected to bring energy savings.
The planned new building in the courtyard of the premises will replace an old storage building. "A multifunctional hall will be created here, which will primarily serve the literary-dramatic field but will also host public performances of the music field. Two new individual classrooms will also be established here, one of which will be soundproofed for teaching percussion instruments," the city hall described its plans on its website.
The city has been the founder of the elementary art school since 2024, having taken over the operation from the Central Bohemian Region. The school has a branch in Bakov nad Jizerou and offers music, visual arts, drama, and dance programs. The new spaces could start being used in the 2028/2029 school year.
