Prostřední Bečva – Several meters high sand sculptures are being created at Pustevny in the Beskydy Mountains. This is the seventh year of the Sand World exhibition. This year's theme will highlight the endangered world of birds, said Dita Korčák, a representative of the organizers, today to ČTK.

"The construction of the sculptures began on Friday, June 12, and the sculptors will work on their pieces until Sunday, June 21. Visitors can once again observe the unique process of creating monumental sculptures right on site. After completion, the works will be on display outdoors, and their lifespan will, like in previous years, depend primarily on the weather," Korčák stated.

Four sculptors are working on the sculptures with the help of five assistants. "The process remains the same as in previous years. First, the sand is delivered to a special framework, then compacted and gradually shaped into final forms. The result is several-meter-high sand sculptures that inspire admiration from visitors of all generations every year," the representative of the organizers stated.

This year's theme is The Endangered World of Birds. Among the species depicted will be the hyacinth macaw and the snowy owl. The exhibition will also present species endangered in the Czech Republic, such as the capercaillie. The display will be supplemented with informational boards that will introduce bird species, their way of life, the degree of threat, and ways in which people can contribute to nature conservation.

Entry to the Sand World is free. Visitors may give a voluntary admission fee, which will go to organizations involved in the protection of endangered species of animals and plants.
