Brno – The construction of a school and nursery for 150 million crowns in Židenice, Brno, will begin in the coming weeks. The municipal office has already demolished the original building and cleared the land where the construction will take place. The company has two years to complete the building; if nothing complicates, the school could open to students in the 2027/2028 school year, said the deputy mayor of the district, Štěpán Juránek (KDU-ČSL).

A new school with a nursery will rise on Šámalova Street, replacing the old tenement building. "The ground floor will have three classes for the nursery accommodating 75 children. On the upper floor, there will be three, and possibly four classes for the primary school after adjustments. The new building will provide facilities for students from the primary school on Kuldova Street, which is a protected monument and cannot be expanded," described Juránek. The overall capacity of both facilities will be about 150 children.

"The contracted company has been selected, we regularly meet on inspection days to fine-tune the construction schedule. If no problems arise, we will start the actual construction in the coming weeks," the deputy mayor stated. The municipal office has received a grant of 40 million from European funds for the nursery. Including the school, the construction will cost 150 million crowns, with the remaining funds coming from the district's budget and the budget of the city of Brno.

The municipal office is expanding the capacities of schools and nurseries in response to ongoing construction in Židenice and the associated increase in the population of the district. "We currently have about 23,000 residents, and we expect further growth after the establishment of the New Zbrojovka district. It’s a race with developers to see if we can catch up with the infrastructure that has been lacking," Juránek added.
