In the renovated Old Deanery in Nymburk, there will be an information center, a café, and a ceremonial hall

Nymburk – The Old Deanery in Nymburk will open to the public on September 5 after extensive renovations. In the listed building, which dates back to the 13th century, there will be a branch of the tourist information center, a café, a ceremonial hall, exhibition spaces, and facilities for cultural and social events. The work cost 57 million crowns excluding VAT, and the opening is planned for Nymburk's harvest festival, the city spokesperson Marta Svobodová informed today.

The renovation of the deanery began in the fall of 2023. The city received grants of 3.1 million crowns and four million crowns for the project. "At the same time, the city has been promised another 8.5 million crowns from the Integrated Regional Operational Program (IROP), the provision of which has not yet been completed administratively," said the spokesperson.

Part of the Old Deanery includes the historical tower Kaplanka. The renovations have made it possible to access another tower in the city walls, which connects to the already opened viewpoint from the city fortifications and expands the visitor route through the historic center. Visitors will be able to view the renovated interiors of the deanery, the Kaplanka tower, Gothic cellars with a 13-meter deep well, exhibition spaces, and other historical elements that were restored during the reconstruction. The tour will also include the newly accessible tower in the city walls.

"The Old Deanery is one of the most valuable historical monuments in our city. I am glad that we have managed to restore a place with more than seven hundred years of history and give it new life. I believe it will become a natural center for gathering, culture, and learning about the history of Nymburk, and will serve not only the residents of the city but also its visitors for many more years to come," said Mayor Tomáš Mach (Nymburk with ease).

The city purchased the baroque deanery complex from the church after 2006, and in 2010 it had the roof repaired. The tower Kaplanka, to which the deanery building was likely added in 1657, is one of the bastions of the Nymburk fortifications, built between 1288 and 1305.
