In Hradec Králové, the construction of an infectious disease clinic worth more than a billion has begun

Hradec Králové – The construction of an infectious diseases clinic has begun today at the Faculty Hospital Hradec Králové (FN HK). This is an investment of 1.041 billion crowns, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, government and hospital representatives informed reporters today. The ceremony featuring the laying of the cornerstone was attended by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) and Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (for ANO). The investment is part of a large-scale modernization of the FN HK premises.

An eight-story pavilion in the shape of an equilateral triangle with a central atrium will be built in the section of the premises adjacent to the road ring, in close proximity between the neurosurgery clinic building and the laboratory buildings.

"The investment will allow the hospital to build modern facilities for the infectious and dermatological clinic, expand outpatient and inpatient capacities, and significantly improve conditions for both patients and healthcare personnel. I am pleased that we managed to secure funding for this project from European funds as well as the state budget," said Vojtěch.

The pavilion will have seven above-ground and one underground floor. It will replace an inadequate building from 1928, which has been part of the hospital complex since its inception.

"The building that the new pavilion will replace has served the hospital for nearly 100 years. Medicine has advanced incredibly during that time, and modern healthcare cannot do without appropriate facilities, technology, and quality conditions for the work of healthcare workers," stated Babiš.

The new building will house the infectious diseases clinic and the clinic for skin and sexually transmitted diseases, which treat over 20,000 patients annually. The construction will be provided by the company OHLA ŽS. The project was designed by architects Michal Juha and Jan Topinka from Domy Architects.

"The construction of the pavilion, which our hospital also financially contributed to, will lead to a significant improvement in conditions for both outpatient and hospitalized patients with infectious and skin diseases, allow for more effective isolation of infected patients, and of course bring better conditions for our staff," said the hospital director Aleš Herman.

The facility will offer 75 beds, of which 53 will be for the infectious clinic and 22 for the dermatological clinic. Ten beds from the total of 75 will be occupied by the ICU. The pavilion will also include five infectious disease and six dermatology outpatient clinics, EEG, X-ray, vaccination center, balneocenter, and phototherapy center. The project also includes the construction of a two-story parking lot in immediate proximity to the new pavilion with a capacity of 56 parking spaces for employees and patients.

The construction of the pavilion is an investment project with a total value of 1.041 billion crowns including VAT, of which 654 million crowns is funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the IROP program. The state budget grant totals 115 million crowns, and the hospital contributes 272 million crowns.

FN HK is one of the largest healthcare facilities in the Czech Republic and the largest in Eastern Bohemia. It employs 6,000 staff and serves 750,000 patients annually.
