Prague - Interested parties in creating and building the Czech pavilion at the World Expo 2015 in Italy can apply for the tender starting Monday when the competition will be published in the public procurement bulletin. The competition will close in September when the commission will also select the winner. The Czech state plans to rent the pavilion from the contractor and co-investor of the Czech participation for ten months.
It will pay up to 50 percent of the costs, with a maximum of 60 million crowns. After the exhibition, the competition winner will dismantle and transport the pavilion, said the general commissioner for Czech participation Jiří Potužník today to ČTK.
Due to time constraints, the competition will be a single round, the selected contractor will be tasked with proposing a comprehensive solution for Czech participation. This includes creating the pavilion and planning its surroundings, architectural conception, preparation of project documentation and necessary permits for pavilion implementation, and solutions for the exhibition and multimedia space in the pavilion, as well as operation and maintenance. The pavilion will feature restaurants and offices.
The internal exhibition of the pavilion is to showcase the best that Czech science can offer the world on the theme "Food for the Planet, Energy for Life." Italy has been particularly interested in extraordinary discoveries in the Czech Republic in the fields of nanotechnology and biochemistry applied in agriculture and water purification, which advance the development of the theme into the future.
Regions will participate in creating the exhibition, and the multimedia projection will be developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry through a competition among universities.
The government agreed to Czech participation in the next World Expo, with the condition that private sector involvement in co-financing was included for the first time, with a budget ranging from 180 to 260 million crowns. Total contributions from private individuals and other partners are expected to be around 50 million crowns. Even after the Expo closes in October 2015, the pavilion structure should continue to be utilized. A potential investor would thus acquire the building and its reputation.
The Expo 2015 exhibition area is located in the northwestern part of Milan. It covers an area of 1.1 million square meters, of which 200,000 square meters will be occupied by the pavilion area. Czechia rented the plot in April. To date, 129 countries have registered for participation.
