Prague - The alternative selection procedure for the contractor of the Czech pavilion at the World Expo 2015 in Milan, Italy, will be announced on Thursday, and interested parties from Italy could also participate. No one registered for the first competition in September. This follows from a document that the government is to discuss on Wednesday. According to it, preparations are complicated by both the political situation and the fact that a similar project of shared public and private investments has not yet been realized. The office of the general commissioner for the future Czech participation is, however, convinced that the project will be completed on schedule, even though it is already behind. The deadline for submitting applications for the creation of the pavilion will end on December 2, with the best proposal to be selected on December 13. The budget for the project is expected to be in the range of 180 to 210 million crowns, of which 70 million will come from the previous World Expo in Shanghai, China, and 60 million will come from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ funds. The rest is to be covered by other partners or the private sector. By mid-September, the office recorded a commitment of 56 million from third-party sources, thus meeting the minimum limit by six million crowns, the document states. The office of the general commissioner will be looking for a comprehensive solution for Czech participation in the selection process. This includes the creation of the pavilion, architectural concept, project documentation, obtaining permits for the realization of the pavilion, realization of the internal exhibition, operation, and maintenance of the pavilion. The result this time should be a temporary structure, which will be dismantled after the Expo ends. Last year, the government agreed to the Czech participation in the next World Expo, with the condition of involving the private sector for the first time in co-financing for the project budget of 180 to 260 million crowns. The pavilion's exhibition should include a thematic Laboratory of Life, a national section, multimedia projection, and a restaurant. The interior should relate to the results of Czech science and be in line with the theme of the World Expo, which is "Food for the Planet, Energy for Life." Italy has previously been particularly interested in extraordinary discoveries from the Czech Republic in the field of nanotechnology and biochemistry applied in agriculture and water purification, which advance the development of the topic into the future.
