The J. M. Olbrich Award has been granted by the Za Opavu association since 2007. Each year, the award for new construction alternates with the award for reconstruction for projects completed in the Opava region in the previous period. By awarding the J. M. Olbrich Award, we aim to highlight interesting examples. The main purpose of the J. M. Olbrich Award is to emphasize the role of architecture in the life of individuals and society, to spark discussions about it, to cultivate taste, and to bring educational confrontations.

This year, the expert jury decided on the award for new construction for the years 2015–2016. The seven-member jury evaluated a total of 17 nominations, including 7 buildings financed from public sources and 10 private investments.

The jury was pleased with the number and, above all, the quality of most of the nominated buildings. It appreciated those proposals and realizations that have a regional level, respect the context of the given location, possess convincing architectural and spatial solutions, and high-quality details. The jury decided to award two prizes and two honorable mentions of the J. M. Olbrich Award, thus recognizing not only the approach of private investors but also public building procurers. However, the jury sadly noted that for significant investment public buildings, no architectural competitions had been announced to test the best possible solutions, which is reflected in the final outcome.

Considering the overall evaluation of the nominated buildings mentioned above, the Za Opavu association, based on the expert jury's recommendations, awards the following recognitions to these nominated projects:
