Děčín - Děčín will announce an architectural competition for a footbridge for cyclists near the railway bridge, which will connect the paths on the left and right banks of the Elbe River. The city council's requirement is to create a safe crossing, the design of which the residents will be proud of. This was stated today by Mayor Marie Blažková (ANO).
The footbridge will run along the railway bridge, which is one of the city’s landmarks. "It is not easy to come up with a design that does not obscure the bridge and is both beautiful and functional, which is why we decided on a competition," Blažková said. During the reconstruction of the bridge, the footbridge was taken into account, and the builders placed foundations for the structure, but the city did not find the necessary funds for the investment.
The competition will last about three quarters of a year, after which a project will be created based on the winning design. "Due to financing, we have approached the Ústí Region and will be looking for some suitable grant titles," said city hall spokeswoman Markéta Lakomá to ČTK.
Currently, passing through Děčín is very difficult for cyclists. "They have to ride on a very busy street, moreover, the Vilsnická connection is under construction, so cycling is dangerous and many people reconsider," Lakomá stated.
The number of cyclists passing through Děčín is increasing every year. Cyclists from Australia, Korea, New Zealand, and other countries have already stopped at the local information center. You can ride along the bike path along the Elbe, head to the Ore Mountains or follow the Ploučnice River.
