The producer of the XIII. year of the GRAND PRIX OF THE ARCHITECTURE COMMUNITY is the agency Foibos. The GRAND PRIX OF THE ARCHITECTURE COMMUNITY is a competitive exhibition of architectural works completed in the past year. It is organized annually by the Architecture Community on the day of architecture UIA. The competition is open; Czech and foreign architects, designers, and artists can participate, provided the work is realized on the territory of the Czech Republic. The first competition took place in 1994 – at that time it was an exhibition of works over a five-year period (from 1989); in the following years, works completed in the last year with a completion date between January 1 and December 31 were competed.
The GRAND PRIX OF THE ARCHITECTURE COMMUNITY has 7 categories – New Construction, Reconstruction, Interior, Landscape Architecture and Garden Design, Urbanism, Architectural Design and Small Architecture, and Artistic Work in Architecture.
The works are evaluated by an independent international expert jury. The jury consists of a different composition each year, but always includes at least four foreign architects and a Czech critic, theorist, or historian of architecture or artist. Prizes and honorable mentions are awarded in the individual categories, with the main prize being the GRAND PRIX OF THE ARCHITECTURE COMMUNITY, awarded to the winning work of the entire exhibition.
At the festive announcement of the winners, a prize is also awarded to a Czech architect for significant lifelong work. The laureate is proposed by the Council of the Architecture Community.
This year, the prizes of the Minister for Regional Development and the Minister of the Environment were awarded.
The prizes are honorary.
All works are always presented at an exhibition in the National Gallery in Prague, in the Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art in the Trade Fair Palace. The exhibition, as a traveling exhibition, will visit several Czech and Moravian cities and will also be presented abroad. This year, it will gradually be presented in Brno, Zlín, Ostrava, Prostějov, and Ústí nad Orlicí and other cities. From foreign cities, a traveling exhibition in Poland – Katowice, in Germany – Hanover and Dresden, in Slovakia – Bratislava and Košice, and in China can currently be confirmed.
Due to the great interest of creators in the GRAND PRIX OF THE ARCHITECTURE COMMUNITY, a comprehensive overview of contemporary architectural creation in the Czech Republic is being established.
