Havlíčkův Brod – The Havlíčkův Brod city hall announced an architectural competition for a new aquatics center. The winning design should be selected by spring 2025. The current pool has been in operation for nearly 30 years and is located next to the ice rink in the Kotlina sports complex in the city park. The city plans to construct the new facility at a different location and connect it with the summer swimming pool on Chotěbořská Street. This information comes from today's press release from the city hall.
Applicants can submit their competition proposals until March 14, with the deadline potentially being extended if there are additional inquiries. A jury, which will include independent experts along with city representatives, will evaluate the proposals, including architect Aleš Burian.
The local government considered whether to prepare a general reconstruction of the swimming pool or to build a new one. "In the end, together with my colleagues from the council, we concluded that we would go the route of a completely new building," said Mayor Zbyněk Stejskal (ODS).
In the selected area between Chotěbořská Street and the Cihlářský Stream, there are currently clay courts and beach volleyball courts, as well as a meadow. "We chose an open architectural competition to compare various solutions for an extensive construction program in a relatively complicated situation," the mayor stated.
The competition brief includes a hall with a pool for competitive and recreational swimming with six to eight lanes, each 25 meters long, and another hall with a pool for relaxation activities and lessons. It also plans to include a children's wading pool, whirlpools, and other water attractions, as well as a sauna world. "It will also be necessary to address parking and refreshment capacities," said Deputy Mayor Libor Honzárek (TOP 09).
A year ago, the Havlíčkův Brod city hall stated that it would begin preparing documentation for the construction of a new indoor pool, as the current pool's condition is poor and its lifespan is estimated by experts to be just a few years. City representatives at that time mentioned that according to an older study, the costs for a new pool were estimated at 360 million korunas, but could be higher.
