Jan Kurz - winner of JFK#16

The end of the summer semester at the Faculty of Art and Architecture in Liberec was again dedicated to the contest Ještěd in a cage. In this year's already sixteenth edition, both semester projects and a record number of bachelor's and diploma works were displayed. In Karel Hubáček's studio, a jury of star-studded composition gathered again. We were honored to have the visit of Professor Emil Přikryl, as well as architect Jan Žalský (Žalský architect) and Jáchym Svoboda from the young office BOD architects. The theorist and curator Markéta Žáčková (FaVU) traveled from Brno to Liberec, and the sculptor Aleš Novák complemented the five-member jury. Throughout the day, the exhibited projects in the fields of architecture, urbanism, and environmental design were evaluated. At seven in the evening, the studio doors opened to the public, and about an hour later, the results were announced.

This time, the jury decided to nominate 10 projects and choose one absolute winner. This year's traveling statuette of Ještěd in a cage was awarded to Jan Kurz for his diploma work Novohradská pilgrimage landscape.

Among the nominees were Patrik Kovaľ with the project Library in Prešov, Šimon Marek with Museum of Children's Illustration in Boží Dar. Also nominated for the project conversion of a lighthouse into a hotel was Eliška Kovaříková, and for his diploma project Center of Jablonné in Podještědí, Jiří Lukáš was awarded. Additionally, Martin Stupka for the project Baugruppe, Matyáš Fialka for Natural School, Vojtěch Stoklasa for Hrádek nad Nisou, a team of students from Zdeněk Franek and Dana Raková's studio received a nomination for the publication Reconstruction, and Julie Floriánová for her diploma project in the Department of Environmental Design Idea, Reality, Memory.

Ještěd in a cage, like every semester, was held under the auspices of the x-fatul association of alumni and friends of the school, and its smooth course was supported by sponsorship gifts from Rheinzink, Schüco, and Graphisoft Archicad. Material prizes for the winners and nominees were donated by companies Master&Master, Papelote, Doubleshot, OMAM, TON, and Kino Aero.
