Jičín - The town hall of the seventeen-thousand-strong Jičín has begun preparing a residential zone on the northwestern edge of the city. The form of development for the thirteen-hectare area in the Holínské Předměstí district should arise from an urban planning and architectural competition. In the future, dozens of family houses could be built in the area. The city council approved the intention to announce the architectural competition, which could take place in the first half of 2024, said the town hall spokesperson Jan Jireš today.

The current main housing project of the city is the construction of engineering networks, roads, and public spaces for a residential neighborhood in the area of the former barracks. The city started this nearly quarter-billion-crown project last spring, and it is expected to be completed in 2025. Approximately 200 apartments should be created in the area, with about a quarter in family homes.

The development of the Holínské Předměstí area, situated between Seifertova, Markova streets, and the northwestern bypass of the city, has been discussed in Jičín since the 1990s in connection with the then-planned bypass construction. "Preparation was gradually taking place from a property standpoint, and now the city owns a substantial part of the land in the area," said the spokesperson.

The town hall believes that the architectural competition will bring a quality design for the area’s development. The city has experience with architectural competitions, having announced them in recent years for the use of the barracks area and the design of the Cidlina leisure zone.

When construction in the Holínské Předměstí area might begin is still unclear, but it will take many years. The spokesperson noted that preparing the barracks site for construction has so far taken more than ten years.
