Mnichovo Hradiště – Mnichovo Hradiště will complete the wing of the elementary school on Studentská Street, and a pavilion with classrooms for the youngest grades and a new gym will be added. The new wing of the school is expected to have 12 classrooms, a dining hall, and changing rooms. Construction should take place in three phases. Last week, the city announced a limited competition for the architectural design. The financing of the constructions, with an estimated budget of several hundred million crowns, will be primarily ensured by Mnichovo Hradiště through grants. Martin Weiss informed about this on behalf of the city in a press release today.
"By implementing the new wing, we will resolve the capacity issue of the school, and with the construction of the sports hall, which will serve both education and sports clubs as well as the public, a dignified new space for sports and large school events will be created," said the city’s deputy mayor Ondřej Lochman (We Live for Hradiště). The extension will be located in the southwestern part of the current school premises. The work will also include adjustments to the school premises.
According to Weiss, the start and progress of construction will depend on how much funding can be obtained from grants. "Grants will need to make up the majority of the funds used," he stated. The extension of the premises on Studentská Street is preliminarily expected to cost hundreds of millions of crowns. "Before the crisis, a total investment of 700 million crowns was planned for all the various contemplated extensions and expansions of educational capacities in Hradiště. Today, it would certainly be significantly more," added Weiss. In addition to Studentská, the city is also preparing construction modifications for ZŠ Sokolovská.
The jury will select only six architects or their teams for the competition based on portfolios, which can be submitted by November 15. These architects will then prepare competition designs. "We chose the format of a design competition because we will be able to evaluate different variants, not only from an architectural or operational perspective but also be better able to estimate the investment amount or future operating costs," said the city’s mayor Jiří Plíhal. The public may be presented with the winning designs next April.
