Pardubice - Pardubice will organize an international urban planning and architectural competition for the Dukla sports project. Its goal is to obtain a comprehensive study of the sports complex at Dukla and an architectural design for the future athletics hall. The representatives also decided today to release 12 million crowns over the next two years for the acquisition of project documentation for the hall.

The city hall has gathered the requests of the sports clubs that use the complex. It has also held several meetings with the public on the topic of the complex's development. This has resulted in an idea of the necessary sports facilities, capacity of playing fields, and stands. The next step is to incorporate these ideas into the study. "We will obtain a conceptual material that we will gradually fulfill with constructions over the next 20 to 30 years," said Deputy Mayor Helena Dvořáčková.
In the first phase, a covered athletics hall with a height of seven meters should be created, with costs estimated at 250 million crowns. According to project manager Miroslav Janovský, there will be interest in it, as currently there is only one comparable hall in Prague. The city had a survey of potential users of the hall conducted within a 70-kilometer radius, which indicates that it would be filled.
The total costs for the two-round competition will amount to up to 2.8 million crowns, of which two million crowns will be allocated for prizes and rewards. Some representatives had concerns about organizing the international competition. For example, Jan Linhart (Patrioti Pardubic) pointed out that parts of the complex are already under repair. "I would see other locations that deserve such a competition. I consider such a sum to be throwing money away," said Linhart. Karel Haas (ODS) also had doubts.
