Prague – The leadership of the capital city has approved the announcement of a public contract for the repair of the terrace above the C line metro station Budějovická, which is in a state of emergency. The reconstruction of the space is expected to begin this year. This was stated to journalists today by councilor Jan Chabr (TOP 09). Last year, the city signed an agreement with the Prague transport company (DPP), the shopping center DBK, Česká spořitelna, and other owners. The terrace was temporarily closed in January two years ago due to its emergency state. The previous city leadership originally wanted to demolish it.

The city has announced the contract once before but had to cancel it. "Unfortunately, there were legal complications. The original contract accounted for a different project, which is why it was canceled and a new one was announced," said Chabr.

Work on Budějovická is expected to start this year and finish next year, according to the councilor. He did not specify an exact date. "We were expecting it to be this autumn, but unfortunately it will not be," he said.

The terrace was built in 1977 and has never been repaired. Issues include, for example, water infiltration into the structure. The emergency condition has been known since 2010. Furthermore, legally the building belonged to no one. It was only in 2013 that officials from the Prague 4 city hall decided that it belongs to the capital city. In recent years, several projects for the repair of the terrace have been developed, but none have been carried out.

Prague closed the passage at the southern exit of the metro on January 22, 2018. Three days earlier, the metro exit was closed. Subsequently, the city came up with the solution to demolish the terrace. However, after nearly ten months, the office ultimately had the terrace supported by braces, which are still at the metro exit, and the southern metro exit was reopened. The closure of the passage was disliked by DBK from the start. The city negotiated unsuccessfully with them about a possible sale of the terrace to the shopping center. The Prague 4 city hall also opposed the closure at that time.
