Prague - The study of renovations in the area around the Budějovická station of Prague's metro line C, known as Budějovické náměstí, will be completed by August 2021. The cost to the city will be approximately eight million crowns. This is evident from a document approved today by Prague's city councilors. They also expanded the committee responsible for coordinating the preparations for the reconstruction. The area to be renovated covers 40,980 square meters and has several owners, including the city of Prague.

"In the addressed area, there is a relatively small number of owners, but the property boundaries often overlap regardless of functional and spatial links in the area," the document states.

The aim of the study is to create a center for Prague 4 from the square, making it a transportation hub while also fulfilling both the city's strategic urban planning goals and the economic interests of all parties involved. The document will also consider the reconstruction of the metro station.

The largest amount will be spent on project management, totaling 2.5 million crowns. The funds will go towards paying the team and its coordination. The economic-functional feasibility study will cost 2.3 million, and legal services will amount to half a million. Additional funds will be allocated for marketing and PR, as well as project management. Each amount will be approved separately.

This year, at the end of February, the capital city received a building permit for the reconstruction of the terrace above the metro station, which was temporarily closed in January two years ago due to a state of disrepair, and some areas are still inaccessible.

The previous leadership of the city hall initially wanted to demolish the terrace. However, after almost ten months, they chose to support it with braces, which still remain at the metro exit, and the southern exit of the metro was reopened. The closure of the passage was not well received from the beginning by the DBK shopping center located there. The city held unsuccessful negotiations with it regarding the possible sale of the terrace to the shopping center. The city hall of Prague 4 also opposed the closure at that time.
